Information about the exams

The Language Laboratory of the UMH will carry out in  its facilities only the KET(A2), PET (B1), FCE -FIRST (B2) and CAE (C1) exam levels.

KET -A2

Also known as Key English Test, it is an entry-level certificate. It certifies that the candidate is able to use their language skills in English in everyday situations. It corresponds to an A2 level in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). With this level the candidate will be able to :

  • Being able to respond to questions about oneself, as well as asking everyday questions
  • Understand direct instructions and public announcements
  • Understand important information and be able to write it correctly
  • Read e-mails and be able to write them

This exam consists of a written part (2 hours approximately), in which assesses the written, reading, listening skills of the student, and another oral part (approximately 10 minutes) that is done in pairs.

PET -B1

Also known as Preliminary English Test (PET),  it is an intermediate level certificate. It certifies that the candidate is able to use their English language skills for work, study and travel. It corresponds to a B1 level in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). With this level the candidate will be able to:

  • Communicate effectively in English, in everyday situations with native speakers
  • Understand specific facts as direct instructions or public announcements
  • Express opinions, attitudes, states of mind, oral and written
  • Read simple textbooks or journal articles, or write about familiar topics
  • Take notes in class

This exam consists of a written part (approximately 2 hours), with which the written, reading and listening skills of the student are assessed, and another oral part (approximately 2 hours) that is done in pairs.

First-B2

Also known as First Certificate in English (FCE), it is a high intermediate level certificate. It demonstrates the mastery of the English language in everyday situations both at written level as well as spoken for work or educational purposes. It corresponds to a B2 level in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). With this level, the candidate is able to:

  • Cope independently in an English -speaking country
  • Study at a preparatory and introductory level of English;
  • Work in an English speaking environment;
  • Understand the essential concepts in complex texts.
  • Express opinions and arguments on a great number of topics, as well as in clear and detailed texts, explaining the advantages and disadvantages different points of view.

This exam consists of a written part (3 hours and a half hours approximately) with which the written, reading and listening skills of the student are assessed, and another oral part (approximately 14 minutes) that is  done in pairs.

CAE-C1

Also known as Certificate Advanced in English (CAE), it is a certificate that certifies an Advanced Level of proficiency in the English language. It is accepted by more than 6.000 Educational institutions, companies and government departments around the world. It shows that the candidate has the necessary linguistic competence to carry out complex investigations and communicate effectively in the professional field. It corresponds to a C1 level in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. With this level the candidate will be able to:

  • Cope with confidence in an English-speaking environment.
  • Express yourself with a high level of fluency.
  • Demonstrate your level of English for visa applications and university enrolment applications.
  • Follow an academic course at university level.
  • Communicate effectively in professional and managerial environments.
  • Participate effectively in work meetings and seminars.
  • Develop complex investigations.

This exam consists of a written part (4 hours approximately), with which the written, reading and listening skills of the student are assessed, and another oral part  ( approximately 15 minutes )that is done in pairs.
